May Award as Trial Lawyer of the Year. Born and raised in Twin Falls County, he attended Stanford University as an undergraduate. He graduated with a degree in English in 1978. Charlie obtained his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1981. He moved back to Idaho in 1983 and has practiced trial law in Idaho since 1983. Charlie devotes his practice to representing individuals with claims for personal injury, medical malpractice or wrongful death. Charlie has more than 30 years of experience as a lawyer in Idaho courtrooms. Charlie currently handles various types of personal injury cases, with an emphasis on medical malpractice and medical product liability cases and significant injury cases caused by motor vehicle accidents or other causes. In addition to being an Inner Circle member, Charlie is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only, and membership cannot exceed one percent of the total lawyer population of any state. Charlie has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for each of the past ten years, and Mountain States Super Lawyers during the past several years in the field of personal injury litigation. He has been recognized with the Idaho State Bar Professionalism Award. Charlie has been lead counsel in numerous cases which have resulted in verdicts or settlements in excess of a million dollars. One of the more interesting cases involved a tragic motor vehicle accident in Italy which dramatically impacted a family from Boise. After prolonged litigation in Italy, the case resolved for more than $10 million. Two of the more noteworthy trial verdicts include a $6.15 million verdict obtained in 2006 for the family of a 28-year-old woman who died as a result of a medical error, and a $7.55 million verdict obtained against St. Luke’s Hospital in a wrongful death case in 2001. More recent verdicts and settlements include a 2014 settlement involving a woman from New Mexico who settled a medical malpractice claim for $5 million. In 2015, Charlie helped an Idaho family resolve a wrongful death medical malpractice claim for $2 million. Charlie and his wife, Margaret, have four children: Haley, Matt, Mark, and Grace. In addition to spending time with his family, Charlie enjoys various sports activities, including biking and skiing. Charlie also has volunteered as a board member for various local community groups.
